An impressive bronze sculpture near the entrance to Duke Clinic honors the roughly 30 members of the Duke-affiliated 65th General Hospital Division of World War II. The group of faculty, house staff, alumni and nurses trained for a year in Fort Bragg, N.C. and were called to active duty to England in 1942 where they treated severely wounded soldiers.
The moving four-piece sculpture was produced by Stephen H. Smith of Marshville, N.C. It depicts a physician, a nurse, a wounded soldier and a corpsman. The Duke Clinic is located on Trent Drive. Parking is available in the Duke Clinic Parking Garage. Follow the sidewalk to the sculpture.
